In September 2007, the ACBA Public Service Committee organized and held its first “Backpack Project” to help students attending Vann Elementary School in the Hill District. This effort was spearheaded by David Mitchell and Katie Kenyon of the Public Service Committee; the Young Lawyers Division Public Service Committee; and Lisa Pollice of the Pittsburgh Legal Administrators Association, who coordinated the project, helped raise money, and obtained school supplies. The Committee was able to provide the school with three hundred backpacks filled with supplies.
In November 2007, the Committee approved the implementation of the project in 2008.
