This year's "Backpack Project," organized by the ACBA Public Service Committee, will provide school supplies to 400 students attending Grandview Elementary School in Pittsburgh. This effort was spearheaded by David Mitchell and Katie Kenyon of the Public Service Committee with assistance from the Young Lawyers Division Public Service Committee and the Pittsburgh Legal Administrators Association, who coordinated the project, helped raise money, and obtained school supplies. The first "Backpack Project" was held in September 2007 to help students attending Vann Elementary School in the Hill District. The Committee was able to provide the school with three hundred backpacks filled with supplies.
Volunteers are needed on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. to pack supplies into backpacks. Packing the backpacks will take place in the Academy Room on the 9th Floor of the City County Building following the YLD Public Service Committee meeting and should take about half an hour. Volunteers are also needed to transport the backpacks to the school afterwards.
