The Honorable Robert E. Dauer Memorial Committee was formed to commemorate the legacy of the Honorable Robert E. Dauer. Judge Dauer began a judicial career that spanned more than thirty years when he was appointed to the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas in 1972. He later won election for three ten-year terms, during which time he served as administrative judge of the Criminal Division from 1977 to 1993. Dauer also served as president judge during his career. Judge Dauer passed away at age seventy-three on April 2, 2002.
The bar foundation worked with the memorial committee to raise over $100,000 for the commissioning of a double life-sized bust of Dauer. The bust, created by renowned sculptor Alan Cottrill of Zanesville, OH, is currently on display in the mezzanine level of the Allegheny County Courthouse. The committee also purchased memorial benches for the County Courthouse. The memorial was unveiled at a ceremony commemorating Judge Dauer on April 14, 2007 at the courthouse.
