Military Veterans and Elderly Fund

In 2007, an anonymous donation of $123,000 was given to the ACBF with the purpose of providing fiduciary and legal services to military veterans and the elderly. In 2009, the ACBF Grants Committee awarded a grant from this fund to:

ACBA Probate & Trust Law Section
To fund public seminars to educate and protect the elderly regarding topics of probate and living trusts so as to avoid falling prey to scams.

2008 grant recipients

  • ACBA Military & Veterans Affairs Committee Call-in Day to be used for the 2008 call-in day held on October 28 at KDKA Studios where 29 attorney volunteers fielded approximately 400 phone calls from individuals seeking advice on military benefits, bankruptcy, family law, and other legal issues.
  • Veterans Leadership Program (VLP) of Western Pennsylvania’s Veteran’s Court to be used to establish a Veterans Court to assist veterans in clearing warrants so they can access community services; use agencies, private providers, educators, and faith-based community to find better solutions to homelessness; and can redress their offenses through alternatives to punishment-oriented sentences.
