Pro Bono volunteer opportunity
Immigration Asylum Project:
The ACBA Public Service Committee and Pittsburgh Regional Immigrant Assistance Center (“PRIAC”) are looking for lawyers who are interested in providing legal services to indigent people seeking immigration asylum. Volunteer lawyers will have the unique opportunity to change the lives of refugees by helping them win asylum in the United States. These clients have fled from political, religious, ethnic, and gender-based persecution in countries plagued by human rights violations. The need for volunteers is imminent. PRIAC is unable to meet the needs of asylum seekers in Allegheny County, and currently must turn away these individuals, who have nowhere else to turn for this representation.
The project is directed by Gina M. Godfrey, Esq. of PRIAC, which is located at the Jewish Family & Children’s Service of Pittsburgh Office on Bartlett Street in Pittsburgh, PA. She will screen each case so that the minimum qualifications for asylum are met, as well as mentor participating attorneys through the entire project.
