2020 GRANT RECIPIENTS
The Board of Trustees authorized grants totaling $50,000 to support pro bono and programs that promote the public understanding of the law to the following agencies. The funds will be distributed in early 2021.
Christian Immigration Advocacy Center
The project will provide pro bono legal representation to the Pittsburgh Immigration Court.
Christian Legal Aid
To provide legal counsel to every low-income community member that seeks out the clinic and qualifies for our services.
Education Law Center
To recruit, train, inform, and support collaborative work with an expanding pool of volunteer pro bono attorneys and community advocates willing to help us meet an increasing need to provide legal representation, assistance and consultation to black girls, their families and social service providers on injustices in public education rooted in racism, misogyny and ableism.
Focus on Renewal
Funding monthly legal clinics for non-criminal matters and for wills, living wills, and powers of attorney.
Jewish Family & Community Services
To provide comprehensive training on how to assist U.S. citizens and permanent residents for petitioning their non-citizens spouses and to help U.S. citizens file for fiancée petitions to bring their fiancée back to the U.S.
To support a $60,000 pro bono initiative involving 4 new pro bono partnerships
• K&L Gates to expunge juvenile court records
• PNC’s Legal Department to handle guardianship, trust and estate matters
• Morgan Lewis to address employment, credit and other issues
• Reed Smith to handle legal name changes for failed adoptions
Neighborhood Legal Services
To approve access to health services and healthy outcomes for low-income children through a medical-legal collaborative whereby doctors and lawyers work in tandem to address the social determinants of health.
North Hills Community Outreach
To coordinate and administer the participation of low-income individuals in the Ask the Attorney program.
Women’s Center & Shelter
To provide civil legal representation to victims of intimate partner violence that will help victims obtain safety, autonomy, and restoration from the justice system.
